A compliant PFAS uses an anchorage, body support (a full-body harness), and connectors. Anchorages used for PFAS must be independent of any anchorage used to support or suspend platforms. When not part of a qualified-person engineered system, an anchorage for a single employee’s PFAS must be capable of supporting at least 5,000 pounds. An alternative is a system designed, installed, and used under the supervision of a qualified person with a safety factor of at least two.

Temporary reusable roof anchors and permanent anchors can both be appropriate when correctly selected and installed. Do not tie off to guardrails, vent pipes, light-gauge flashings, or other unapproved objects that cannot be shown to meet the criteria.
